Album Cover

This is the album cover I have created using images taken from when me and the rest of the group went to film for the music video.

It took a while to create due to have a problem trying to get the text to look right on the image until I thought about having a sand effect around the text so it would look better placed on the sand next to the actor in the image (Charlie Mossman). I also put the image in black and white as the song is quite a emotion song and the image (I think) makes it look like a man and his thoughts so I thought the image looked better with a black and white effect on it. I think overall it's alright, I'm not sure about the image though I think I could have gotten a better angle shot and had a larger amount of sand around the main actor so i could fit the text in with the effect better and easier and I could make it larger to be more appealing to a viewer of the cover.

I also had a problem importing it from Photoshop into InDesign where the text and image would be really pixelated and I couldn't figure out why so this is the jpg from the photoshop file.

Photoshop Practise Putting a Sand Effect on Text

When creating my album cover I wanted to try give the text a sand effect as I wanted to place the song name and the artists name on the sand next to the actor in the image (Charlie Mossman) so this is a tutorial I followed to help me get that effect on the text to make it look like it has sand around the text.

For my album cover I have put a sand effect on the text and this is the tutorial I used for to get this effect.

The groups Music Video First Draft

The first draft for the group music video is complete and has shown to the other groups in the class. Having it on Youtube as well gives the group a chance to see any comments made and if needed change the edits or go and re-shoot any scenes, we have also been marked by other members in the class on what they thought of the video and we have also seen theres and marked down what we liked etc.

Group Music Video Comments

 The first drafts for our music videos were due in and we would watch the others groups music videos as well as take down comments on a sheet on what we liked and various other things, these are images of the comment sheets I filled out while watching the other groups.

Desktop Publishing Softwares (DTP)

While doing this coursework and creating an album cover and a poster design I will have to use industry standard software such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign and there are benefits to using these two pieces of software. Luckily I have already done this work in my other subject so I have the work already.


Why I will use these softwares: 

Adobe Indesign, this is used by designers for the basic layout of the magazine such as inserting the text and images etc. This software is good due to being able to add in a bleed effect on pages. I will be using this software to create the layout for the CD cover and Poster, I will then be importing the images I need or have edited over into InDesign and then placing them where I want them to be.

Adobe Photoshop, this is used to edit and adjust images to apply various effects to images as well as being able to use multiple layers to have multiple effects on one image. I will be using this software to edit any images and add effects on them etc due to this being the best software to do this with and one I'm more familiar with then Adobe Fireworks.



Below is some more information on why its better to use Photoshop or InDesign over similar softwares like Adobe Fireworks and Microsoft Publisher 

Adobe Photoshop, I will use Photoshop over other software as its better used for image manipulation and editing the different images I will need to include for example it’s better to use Photoshop for including multiple images on a single page as I can have multiple layers and multiple effects on these images which will make it better and easier to use then another software like Fireworks which is used for editing images as well. Photoshop supports CMYK colours (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Key/Black), Photoshop also supports higher resolution files larger then 2GB and this is better than the 50MB file size PNG that Fireworks has. It’s also seen as the industry standard for image editing. 

Adobe InDesign, I will use this software over a similar software like Microsoft Publisher because Publisher is a lot more limited in what it can do when compared to InDesign such as limited templates. I can also edit images in InDesign if I need to however I wouldn’t be able to do this in publisher, InDesign also has a large amount of tools available to use which publisher has a more limited selection of tools available to use so I can have access to more tools in InDesign which means I could produce better quality pages as InDesign also has a better page creation and I can do a multi-page document easier InDesign.

FIlm Location's

This is a google maps birds eye view of the locations we filmed in, we chose these location based on how visually appealing they look such as crosby beach as its large open fields and the beach itself. Another location was St George's as it looks good for a location to film due to how picturesc it looks as well as the docks which looks good for the background.

Defining Text as Brushes Photoshop Practise Final Design

This is the final design for my defining text as brush tool practice, when trying to copy the "Stay WIth Me" text I tried to make it perfectly copied underneath each other copy but that didn't work so its not perfectly straight however, its only practise for using this tool so I will improve this and I will be able to make a better version if I use this as an album cover for the poster design.

Defining text as brushes (Photoshop Practise)

This is a tutorial on how I defined text as a brush tool, after placing the image you have to duplicate the layer and insert your text.

Next, highlight the text you want as a brush, then go to Edit, "Define Brush Present".

Now you can use that text as your brush tool, I placed multiple copies of the name of the song "Stay WIth Me" and changed the colour for each time I placed it, I also tried to make it perfectly straight with the one above but that didn't work but its only a practise so if I do this again ill take more care in making it straight.

Weather Report for the Third Day of Filming

This is the weather report for the third day for filming the group music video, the weather seems good for the day considering the location will be a beach so the weather will be good for this day.
